      Thatched, listed building which was once a Victorian brew house owned by Charles Woods. The building dates from the 17th century. The split level bar and large restaurant area have been much improved throughout to a high standard.

  • Badwell Ash

      Timber framed local retaining a Lacons sign. Part of the building survived the Great Fire of Badwell Ash in 1723, while the bar was rebuilt after the fire. This village pub has undergone a first class restoration. To the right on entry is the stables restaurant incorporating many features of stables and decorated with items of riding kit. To the left is the smaller bar with high tables and a log burner. Through to the lounge bar with tables and comfortable seating and two log burners.

      Warm, comfortable single bar pub. The building was originally built as a cowshed then adapted to make cider. The Barrel reopened in 2017 under new management with some internal refurbishment to brighten and contemporise the place and is now a drinking place and independent music venue in the heart of Norfolk. A place to meet, drink and stay a while, dogs and drinkers are very welcome.

      Rebuilt in 1950s - note the coat-of-arms on display close to roadside. Known for its extensive menu. reopened November 2012 after 18 months of closure. The Grange seems to have had a chequered history. Between 1962 & December 1967 it was a members' only country club. being re-licensed some time after 1967 with a full license. They advertise quiz nights, karaoke nights, a sports TV and have recently reinstated the pool table.

Whites Directory of Suffolk (1844) states "Coaches pass eight times a day to Norwich, Bury St Edmunds & London". The building dates from the early to mid 17th century.

Evening meals are also served (apart from Sundays). Takeaway meals also available (curries, pastas, fish'n'chips, etc.) during most food sessions. Dogs on leads welcome in the main bar. Same welcoming landlord for last 12 years. A community shop staffed by volunteers operates from a separate unit in the car park.

      Attractive, rambling, thatched building dating from about 1150. Today much of the internal space is used for dining but the bar still offers up to four beers. Much woodwork is exposed. A well is located in one part of the bar. Disabled toilet. Local legend tells of a tunnel running from here to the nearby Stoke Ash White Horse, though we understand no evidence exists for it. In 2008 at the age of 19, Tom Parkhurst took over the pub & was then thought to be the youngest publican in the county.

      An 18th cent. roadside inn, with parts dating back to the 16h century. Re-opened 1st March 2017. Formerly the Bucks Head, this reopened on 1 March 2017 as a 'veggie pub'. It has been freshened up inside but is still very much traditional pub ambience with real ales, and having a drink at the bar without eating is no problem. The vegetarian (& vegan) menu was transferred and adapted from the owners' previous place The Red Lion ('Veggie Red Lion') at Great Bricett near Wattisham (about 6m south of Stowmarket).
